Dr. Sofía Chacaltana-Cortez

Full Professor at the Jesuit Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University. She earned her master’s and doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Her current research focuses on social dynamics and water access in the underground aqueducts of Nasca, as well as the impact of climate change on water quality from a gender perspective. Her project is funded by Prociencia-CONCYTEC. She has published extensively in high-impact academic journals and specialized books in her field. With an interdisciplinary approach, her work has received multiple research grants, including funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the Riva-Agüero Research Grant from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the ERASMUS+ mobility program of the European Union, and social sciences research funding from Prociencia-CONCYTEC, among others. Currently, she is the Director of the Institute for Ethics and Development at Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University and coordinates the Research Group on Indigenous Peoples, Gender, and Interculturality (POGI) at the same institution.
