The role that non-canonical literature has played within religious systems has a special emphasis on monotheist religions entering into conflict with canonical writings. The ability to adapt, amplify and develop canonical texts originals meant a conflict of interest that led to try marginalize this non-canonical literature. However, far from being cornered, these writings got wide acceptance in very diverse circles, also knowing a rich textual transmission in very diverse cultural and linguistic media throughout the centuries, decisively ensuring the legacy of these religious systems.

For each conference, a small number of Emerging Scholar Awards are given to outstanding graduate students and emerging scholars who have an active research interest in the conference themes. Emerging Scholars perform a critical role in the conference by chairing the parallel sessions, providing technical assistance in the sessions, and presenting their own research papers.
